Cascais is the most charming coastal town on the outskirts of Lisbon. It’s known for its stunning beaches, picturesque landscapes, and family-friendly atmosphere.
The city of Cascais is one of the most popular day trips from Lisbon for many reasons. In addition to its rich history and culture, it’s the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon at the beach in Portugal. The beaches in Cascais are renowned for being beautiful, accessible, and safe.
We loved the relaxed atmosphere and the ease with which we could access the beaches without a car. They are, for the most part, within walking distance of the heart of the city of Cascais.
Cascais is nestled between two distinct coastlines: the rugged Atlantic coastline to the west and the more sheltered Estoril coastline to the east. This means that no matter what kind of beach you are looking for (calm sea for splashing around and building sandcastles, rugged and natural, or one that is great for water sports such as surf), Cascais will have something for you!
In this ultimate family guide to Cascais beaches, I’ve selected the 7 best beaches for family fun under the Portuguese sun.
Psst: If you didn’t pack any beach accessories in your luggage, there are several shops close to the beaches of Cascais where you can buy some. We bought a few beach toys to play in the sand with our kids for our beach day in Cascais!
